The most important thing when choosing a shirt is to get the right fit. A great fitting shirt is gathered in all the right places to give you a smart look, a defined silhouette, and the confidence that comes from knowing you are impeccably dressed.
Getting the best fit is easy once you know some of your basic measurements. From collar size to sleeve length, we will take you through the measuring process in order to find that perfect shirt. Before you start, make sure you have a tape measure. It is easier to have someone else on hand to help measure you, but if this isn’t possible, just take each measurement a few times to ensure accuracy.
Measure around the fullest part of your neck. Ensure the tape measure is level all the way round and take the measurement with two fingers underneath the tape. This will ensure your collar is a comfortable fit, and not too tight.
Run the tape around the fullest part of your chest, the tape should be just below the arm pit and over the shoulder blades whilst horizontal to the floor.
Measure around your natural waistline which is the narrowest part of your waist for shirts.
Measure from the top of the shoulder to below the wrist – ideally 2-3 centimeters from the skin between your index finger and thumb. This may seem like too long but it’s necessary to account for the natural movement of the arm. Watch the video for a more detailed instructions.
