Why own a suit?

Within the last century, the everyday style has seen many changes, from the swinging 60s to the bold 80s to the trends of today.
Smart casual is very much in style at the moment, taking into consideration the practicality and looks clothing should have so we can look, as well as feel good within our clothes. Comfortably fashionable would be a good name for it.

Because of this there are less and less men wearing suits around town, simply because they don’t need to. Their workplace requires maybe a dress shirt and chinos, some don’t even require that. So if you can get away with being comfortable why would you wear a suit for anything else other than a high class black tie event that may happen once a year? Last time suits were worn daily our great great grandfathers were alive.

So why own a suit? It’s timeless. There’s never been a time in history when the suit was out of style, when a man did not look good in a suit. Having/wearing a daily suit nowadays is so rare when it comes to the everyday man, that when he does put a suit on it´s only at his own wedding. Many women dream of seeing their man in a suit more often, seeing their man dress to their full potential and show what he is capable of. It is a well known fact that the way you dress and the way you carry yourself affects the way you act, the way you feel and the way others perceive you. The suit makes you look like you own your life, not the other way around. You carry yourself with pride, with elegance, because no suit would let you slouch.

But here comes the problem for many — suits are uncomfortable. Yes they are, when they are too big or too small. Many men don’t know much about suits, so they go and buy the cheapest one at the shopping center and then act surprised when it isn’t perfect fit or doesn’t last long. A suit has to be made for you and only you. Suits don’t work like the typical t-shirt that you pull off the rack, try on and it fits well enough. When a suit is made for you, it has to feel like a second set of skin. You would want to wear it, not have to wear it. A quality suit lasts you a long time. Yes, it is more expensive, but it’s for a reason — as every man who owns a bespoke or at least made-to-measure suit can tell you.

So, in conclusion, every man should own at least one quality suit that is made just for them, either for their work, for meetings or even just for those special dates with your sweetheart. The suit brings out the best in you, that every woman dreams to see and every man wants to be.

How should a shirt fit?

This seems like a simple question, yet look around you. The vast majority of men are wearing shirts that are one or two sizes too large.

Why does this matter? Simply put – an ill-fitted shirt is uncomfortable, looks bad and makes you look unprofessional.

Collar fit

Just right: the perfect collar fit touches the skin all the way around the neck, but does not press against it. You should be able to slip a finger in between your neck and the shirt at any point without struggling or forcing.
Too tight: the collar is close enough to actually press against the skin underneath it. It would be impossible to put a finger between the neck and collar without stretching, tugging, or forcing.
Too loose: the collar does not touch the neck, but rather rests off the body. You could slip a finger in next to the neck without moving the cloth at all.

Shoulder fit

Just right: the vertical shoulder seam sits at the edge of the shoulder, where the plane of the shoulder meets the plane of the outer arm. The armscye (the hole where the sleeve joins the shirt body) is large enough that there’s no tugging or twisting on the shoulder seam.
Too tight: the seam will be shifted up the shoulder toward the neck.
Too loose: the shoulder seam slumps off the shoulder, down onto the outside of the bicep.

Torso fit

Just right: the buttons close comfortable and the underside of the placket (the strip where the buttons and buttonholes are located) rests lightly against the sternum (the central bone of your rib cage). The shirt tucks in with no billowing at the sides.
Too tight: the buttons strain to close, causing radiating wrinkles around the buttonholes.
Too loose: excess fabric hangs slack around the stomach or chest, causing visible billowing.

Sleeve length

Just right: the sleeve comes all the way down to the large wrist bone at the base of the pinky/ring fingers. If a jacket is worn, about a half-inch of shirt cuff should show beyond the end of the jacket sleeve. The cuff should at least touch (and in some postures cover) the wristwatch, if one is worn.
Too short: the cuff leaves the wrist bones exposed, or is hidden completely beneath jacket sleeves.
Too long: the cuff falls all the way to the point where the hand begins to widen outward from the wrist.

Bottom hem length

Just right: when untucked, the hem falls far enough to cover the belt.
Too short: the untucked shirt does not completely cover the belt or waist of the trousers.
Too long: the shirttails fall all the way to cover the crotch in front or bottom in back. When tucked in, excess fabric has to be shoved down between the legs to hide bunching up.

5 Ways to upgrade your style

1. Leather shoes instead of sneakers

Sneakers are cool and I don’t have anything against them. But if your closet consists only of sneakers, then your style is in dire need of an upgrade. Picking up a dressier leather shoe will instantly boost your style!

2. Wear a watch

A well-made watch is a staple in a man’s style. Especially nowadays when everybody just has their phone to tell the time. A stylish watch is original and could be the missing link in your style.

3. Chinos instead of jeans

Chinos can be just as casual as jeans, yet they are way more comfortable and stylish. So why don’t more men wear them? This style change can instantly separate you from the crowd and make you look more stylish. Also chinos are available in different colours giving you more style options.

4. Button-down shirt instead of t-shirt

A quality t-shirt has a place in a stylish man’s wardrobe. But having only t-shirts makes your style very monotonous and it’s not fit for every occasion. A well-fitted button-down shirt is an essential piece of style and the first step in the right direction.

5. At least one well-fitted suit

Every man needs at least 1 well-tailored suit in their closet. Even if you’re in college this still applies to you. Keep in mind the interviews, internships, presentations, funerals, weddings – all of which formal attire is preferred. In addition, wearing a well-fitted suit just makes you irresistible.

4 Tips to look more attractive

1. Clothing

The right clothing and style plays a huge role in how you look – it brings out the best in you. Different styles also change how you compose yourself. For example there’s a huge difference in composure when wearing a suit in comparison to a tracksuit. A good place to start is with the smart casual look and then adjust according to your personal taste. However, the right fit is crucial and sometimes you need a tailor to make necessary adjustments.

2. Haircut and facial hair

A good haircut that suits your face shape and suitable facial hair to go with it is essential to looking good. Ask your barber and friends for their opinions on the matter and do your conclusions. You can also use wax or gel to keep your desired hair style in place for the day. Also remember to keep your body hair groomed and under control.

3. Healthy diet and exercise

The right food and regular exercise keeps you healthy and in shape. Learn about nutrition and do necessary adjustments to your diet – adding more fresh fruits and vegetables can never hurt you. Join a sports club or find an outside activity and try to be active every day.

4. Confidence

Confidence is the single best thing you can “wear”. It’s the secret ingredient that makes you irresistible.

Every man should own a pair of these shoes

They say that the single most noticeable clothing item on a man are his shoes. Many men sadly overlook this detail. And it is precisely the details that set apart a stylish man from an average Joe.

One of the more popular shoes in menswear today is the double monk-strap shoe.

There are a couple of reasons for this:

1. The versatility of the double monk-strap is second to none.
2. It can be worn in multiple environments and in various settings.
3. You will look equally sharp wearing them in an important business meeting or on a night out with your lady.
4. As a bonus, the absence of laces make it super easy to put them on and take them off.

Check out our made-to-measure shoes to find some stylish double monk-strap shoes.

How should a suit fit?

The jacket shoulder padding should end where your shoulder ends. If the jacket is too small at the shoulders it will start pulling and feeling uncomfortable. If it’s too big the jacket shoulder padding will fall over the shoulder and leave a rumpled appearance.

The wrong waist fit could be very uncomfortable if too small. Too big and it will leave a baggy look. That’s why the jacket waist should be the right fit and sometimes needs tailor adjustments to get it just right.

Sleeve length

You want to show a half inch of shirt cuff when your arms are relaxed at your side. If the sleeves are too short, too much of the shirt cuff will be visible and if the sleeves are too long, it will cover the shirt cuff. Neither one of these looks good.

Trouser length

The trouser length depends on your personal preference and the ongoing trend. The classic rule of thumb however is that trousers should end about 1 inch from the bottom of the shoe heel.

3 Reasons to get a bespoke suit

1. Let´s start with comfort

Getting a bespoke suit is comfortable and easy. The thought of having to go to a tailor and through the hassle of getting your body measurements seems like a huge effort at first. At least compared to strolling into a store and buying a ready-to-wear suit. The reality is that when buying a ready-to-wear suit you might spend an entire long day looking for that suit with the ideal look and fit which you may not even find. A good tailor who is an expert at making suits will guide you through the process, giving you all the necessary recommendations and advice. So there is really nothing difficult about it.

2. Fit

There isn’t a single off-the-rack suit that will fit you better than a bespoke suit that is made for you à la carte. The reason is simple – a bespoke suit is made to fit you perfect; ready-to-wear suits are made to fit everyone O.K. This is a challenge for everyone to find a ready-to-wear suit that brings out your best qualities as a bespoke suit does.

3. Individuality

There is no one else that has the same bespoke suit as you do. You have unlimited choices of design when ordering a bespoke suit. When creating your bespoke suit, you are the co-designer and you can be proud of that when you´re wearing your impeccable suit later on.
